T.R.U.S.T (Thirumaran Rural Upliftment Stable Trust) is a small charity that operates in the Thirinavelli district in Tamil Nadu, Southern India. It caters for deprived communities in the rural locations. Communities that do not have the benefit of education, work availability or any government support. They are for the most part traditional villages who rely on beedy rolling or back breaking agricultural work to put food on their tables. Beedy rolling puts workers in constant proximity to unrefined tobacco with dire consequence. Most of the workers will contract Tuberculosis within 15 years of this occupation, many of whom will die. Without access to proper health care, they have very little chance of survival and often pass the disease onto their children, who are especially prone to this awful malady. The other occuptation, agricultural laboring in large farms is a part time occupation only providing work half the year. Consequently the greater part of village families struggle to survive for more than half the year.

The laborers or 'Coolies' have to put up with long hours, awful working conditions, constant abuse whilst their families go without food. Racism is strife (especially towards 'untouchable communities' ), domestic violence is a norm and many women are abused.
